A Sea of Flags in Buenos Aires, 1932

The Plaza de Mayo was a veritable ocean of vibrant colours this afternoon! I found myself swept up in a wave of fervent patriotism, quite unlike anything I’ve experienced before. The air crackled with an almost tangible energy, a spirited blend of pride and camaraderie. What a stirring spectacle!

The Argentinians were celebrating with such zest, waving their small flags with an admirable and infectious enthusiasm. I, never one to be left out, found myself caught up in the moment, singing along (albeit rather poorly, I suspect) to their national anthem. It was a truly moving experience, and I felt immensely welcomed into their midst. Such an outpouring of national pride is certainly a sight to remember. In all the excitement, I must have misplaced my coin near the base of the statue; a humble Gaucho souvenir. A small price to pay for such a glorious experience.

It’s moments like these, these unexpected glimpses into the heart of a culture, that make this grand adventure so worthwhile. Just an average chap, soaking it all in, one thrilling discovery at a time! Onwards, ever onwards, from Buenos Aires.
