Okay, so you know how sometimes you doomscroll and feel overwhelmed by EVERYTHING happening RIGHT NOW? Imagine that, but you’re also stuck in the freaking 1930s. Today was one of *those* days. Buenos Aires is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but the air is THICK with… something.
Tom, bless his heart, is totally vibing with the whole patriotic scene. Think waving flags, singing at the top of his lungs – the full package. Meanwhile, I’m over here trying to decode the energy. It’s like, yeah, national pride is cool and all, but history class kinda spoiled me on how this story ends. Seeing this level of fervent nationalism gives me a major case of the spooks, knowing what the future holds for Argentina. Like, can we maybe chill on the anthems and just, I don’t know, manifest some good vibes for the next few decades?
And speaking of history literally underfoot – Tom was so into the anthem that he didn’t even notice dropping a coin near the statue. An old coin, it had a gaucho on it. I picked it up to check it out, all tarnished and small, and then I put it back. It felt too significant, ya know? Like I wasn’t supposed to have it.
Trying to stay present, soaking up the atmosphere (the good *and* the slightly terrifying), and documenting it all for you guys. It’s a crazy time to be alive… even if that “time” was almost a century ago. Catching these moments in Buenos Aires is a trip.
