Up, Up, and Away on Vienna’s Giant Wheel!

Ah, Vienna! What a splendid city, steeped in history and overflowing with charm. The jewel in its crown, for me at least today, is the magnificent Wiener Riesenrad, the giant Ferris wheel dominating the Prater park. The sheer scale of the thing is quite something, a testament to human ingenuity.

The queue afforded ample opportunity to observe the delightful Viennese at play. Children, full of beans as always, were giving chase to a flock of pigeons, their merry squeals echoing through the crisp autumn air, a welcome contrast to the more guttural Viennese chatter around me. I procured a bag of Maroni – those roasted chestnuts that are just the ticket for a chilly afternoon – from a vendor, and savoured their warmth as I awaited my turn. The view from the top, as one might expect, was simply spectacular! However, in my haste to disembark, I do believe I dropped a partially eaten chestnut, what a shame.

Still, onwards and upwards, that’s my motto! Another fascinating day on this grand adventure, and Vienna continues to impress. Time to discover what other delights this remarkable location has to offer.
